This page will be a place for me to list online shops in the UK where I've bought things and they've arrived without any single-use plastic whatsoever as packaging or on the item itself.

Tip: If you're not sure whether an online shop is environmentally-minded, I find that it sometimes helps to type something in the comment box when ordering. Something like this:

Hi! I'm trying to reduce my environmental impact, so if you could please reuse packaging and avoid plastic wherever possible without compromising the safety of my items in transit I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

Greetings cards

Driftwood Designs

Based in Aberystwyth. Ordered 3x greetings cards (British Trees), 100% recycled. There were no plastic sleeves around the individual cards, and they arrived in a sturdy cardboard envelope with a very minimal strip of plastic to make it easier to open.

Household goods

Anything But Plastic

Sponges, rubber gloves, paper packing tape, pegs, soap, beeswac wraps, hairbrushes, soapnuts, toothpaste, hand sanitiser... All plastic free, and sent in plastic-free packaging.

Soap dispensers

EcoJars

Glass mason jar with stainless steel lid and pump, and a sturdy plastic tube inside. Comes in a cardboard box padded with paper, shipped in an Amazon cardboard box also padded with paper and sealed with paper tape. Aside from the plastic tube, no plastic.

Toiletries

Anything But Plastic

Sponges, rubber gloves, paper packing tape, pegs, soap, beeswac wraps, hairbrushes, soapnuts, toothpaste, hand sanitiser... All plastic free, and sent in plastic-free packaging.

Veg boxes

Riverford

Information in the Riverford veg box about what to do with all of the packaging.

Regular delivery of organic veg boxes of various sizes. "Plastic" nets for fruits are made from beech and are biodegradable! Cold things are insulated with wool and cold packs, which are returnable. There are some plastic-like bags and films that are home-compostable. The only non-recyclable/non-compostable/non-returnable things are elastic bands and the little clips from the beech nets.

Yarn

Eden Cottage Yarns

I regularly order some beautiful merino 4-ply from them. The yarn labels are card sealed with a stapleless stapler, and the packaging is a paper bag inside a more sturdy paper bag sealed with hardwearing paper tape. No plastic at all.
